Trailblazer is an exciting scheme encouraging children to get outdoors and take part in educational activities.  At Redlands this term, the children have enjoyed a variety of experiences.

Spring and Summer Term

Year 1/2 used the playground markings to create bar charts for work on data handling in maths

Year 3/4 finished their Art and History topic on Romans, by designing and making shields. They took them out on the field and tested them whilst using the testudo formation pattern whilst marching.

Year 5/6 started their Egyptian topic by discovering the Rosetta stone in the playground. They translated the script after uncovering the stone in the dirt.

In Friday’s assemblies leaves and photos were continued to be added to the Trailblazer tree to celebrate our outdoor experiences.

Autumn term

Year 1/2 designed Rangoli patterns on the playground when they were celebrating Diwali.

Year 3/4 started the term by listening to the opening chapter of ‘Stig Of the Dump’, in the woods of Fort Fareham. later in the term, they experienced life as pre-historic man, shooting bows and arrows at pretend wild boar and cooking over a fire at the field. Back at school they have measured leaves in maths and found right angles on the playground.

Year 5/6 explored the length of the Amazon River by following the Golden Mile route. A word hunt around the playground helped the children increase their vocabulary about their topic.

In Friday’s assemblies leaves and photos were added to the Trailblazer tree to celebrate our outdoor experiences.
