Home Learning Year 3/4

I wanted to provide some guidance for pupils and parents of pupils in Year3/4 about home learning. On Google Classroom we have set work for every lesson that would have been taught during the week (apart from a few exceptions such as spelling lessons as pupils have full access to www.Spellingframe.co.uk.

This may seem overwhelming. Please remember that the class timetables, while can be followed directly, is for your reference and guidance and it is impossible to match your home routine to that of school. Therefore, use your discretion in how you approach learning at home.

Government guidance states that home learning should total, on average, at least 3 hours a day and that children should aim to complete their daily lessons for writing, reading and maths as a priority before completing other foundation subjects.

Using Google Classroom, you can submit your work to us for feedback and support. There is an option to turn in your work if you are working on a Google Doc where we can comment and either send it back to you for more work or accept it.  But some work may not need to be submitted. If you would like feedback on a piece of work which is not an online document, perhaps completing some maths or art, please upload a photograph and we will happily comment on it and give you feedback.

Parents, please remember that the children have been shown how to operate Google Classroom and are expected in school to work resiliently and independently. I am not suggesting you abandon them completely, but encouraging them to solve their own problems before seeking your help would be a reflection of learning behaviour in school. Also, please encourage children to read the instructions carefully, as there have been many queries from pupils which are explained in the work.

Teachers will be available to give feedback on work between 9am-11am and 2pm – 3pm every school day so some support is available if needed. At other times they will be making contact with families, planning, preparing resources and work, marking work, assessing and preparing feedback and further teaching based on the completed work.

We are new to this too, and are always looking for ways to improve our home learning. If you have any queries or if we can help in anyway, please do not hesitate to contact the Year 3/4 team via our class emails which are listed below.

Keep safe and thanks for your support from all the Year 3/4 team
